When Lyle and Wendy participated in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk in June 2000,
Lyle's sister Susan made some pink ribbon keychains for Lyle and Wendy to put on
their luggage to make the bags easier to find. The keychains were a tremendous
hit, but the only ones available were the few that Susan had made. For the 3-Day
walk in 2001, Lyle, Wendy and Susan made almost 400 pink ribbon keychains as part
of their fundraising effort, asking for a minimum donation of $10 per keychain.
The keychains were in great demand, and they have been a central piece of Lyle
and Susan's fundraising efforts in the fight against breast cancer ever since.
Lyle and Susan continue to hand-make the pink ribbon keychains. Today, all
money donated related to the keychains is given to The Wendy Larks Foundation.
The keychains come in a few colors and sizes. The lanyard (gimp) strands used are in
three shades of pink... dark, medium and light. There is also a clear color that
when used with the pinks gives the ribbon a 'shimmering' effect. Keychains can be
made with a combination of one or two of the colors. We also make keychains in red.
The keychains are made in two sizes... regular, which is about 1.5" - 2" tall,
and small (or zipper-pull size) which is about 1.25" - 1.5" tall. The regular
and small keychains take from 45 minutes to one hour to make. Regular and small
keychains are available for a $10 or more donation. Please allow sufficient time for us
to make your keychains.
Please contact Lyle
for more information about requesting keychains, or print and submit a donation form.
